What Are Soft Touch Labels?

Soft Touch lamination is a thin film applied over the entire label that changes how the surface feels, giving it a smooth, velvety texture instead of a standard printed or glossy finish. It sits on top of your printed design across the whole label, not just in specific areas.

Beyond the tactile change, Soft Touch also lowers the sheen of the label, so colors read with a softer, more matte appearance compared to an uncoated or gloss-laminated label.

Because Soft Touch is a lamination, it’s one of the options you choose alongside your material, the same way you’d choose Gloss or Matte lamination. It covers the entire label surface, unlike Foil or Spot UV, which are applied to specific areas.

Why Choose Soft Touch?

A tactile finish

The smooth, velvety texture is noticeable the moment someone picks up the product, not just something you see.

Lower sheen, softer color

Soft Touch reduces surface sheen, giving printed colors a softer, more matte appearance than a gloss-laminated label.

Full-surface coverage

Unlike Foil or Spot UV, Soft Touch covers the entire label, so the tactile change is consistent across the whole surface.

A premium feel for packaging

Good for packaging where how the product feels in hand matters as much as how the label looks.

How It Looks and Feels

Soft Touch and Matte lamination share a similar low sheen. The texture is where they differ.

Artwork Considerations

How lamination affects your design

Soft Touch lowers the overall sheen of the label, so colors can read slightly softer than they would uncoated or under gloss lamination. Proof your artwork with this in mind.

Material and finish compatibility

Soft Touch is available on seven of our materials and can be combined with both 2D and 3D Foil, as well as Spot UV, where the material supports them.

No special file prep required

Soft Touch is applied across the entire label, so it doesn't require separating out specific artwork areas the way Foil or Spot UV do.
