What Are Spot UV Labels?
Spot UV is a clear, glossy coating applied to specific areas of your label design, rather than across the entire surface. Wherever the coating sits, that part of the design picks up extra shine and contrast against the surrounding, uncoated surface. It’s a finish added on top of your printed design, not a separate material.
This is different from a full gloss lamination, which covers the entire label in a glossy layer. Spot UV is selective: only the areas you choose receive the coating, so the contrast between coated and uncoated areas becomes part of the design itself.
Spot UV can be applied over most of our materials, including ones with a matte or low-sheen surface, which is often where the contrast reads most clearly.

Why Choose Spot UV?
Apply the coating only to a logo, pattern or other detail, while the rest of the label keeps its original finish.
The coated area catches light differently from the uncoated surface around it, creating contrast without adding color or ink.
Spot UV often reads most clearly against a matte or low-sheen material, since the coated area stands out more from the surrounding surface.
Add Spot UV to your existing material and design rather than switching to a different stock.
How It Looks and Feels
Spot UV works especially well with Matte and Soft Touch lamination. The glossy areas catch the light while the surrounding label stays smooth and low-sheen, creating contrast without covering the entire design in gloss.
Matte Lamination + Spot UV
Matte lamination gives the label a smooth, low-sheen finish. Spot UV adds gloss to selected details, such as a logo, lettering, or pattern. The difference between the two finishes makes those areas stand out without changing the rest of the label.
Soft Touch Lamination + Spot UV
Soft Touch lamination gives the label a smooth, velvety feel. Paired with Spot UV, the glossy areas create contrast you can both see and feel. It’s a good option when you want certain details to stand out against the softer surface.

Spot UV is available on six of our materials. Availability depends on the material you choose, and the calculator above will only let you select combinations we currently support.
Spot UV isn’t available on Holographic, since the foil-like surface can’t hold the raised coating. It also isn’t currently offered on Estate #4, Estate #8, Estate #9, Eggshell Felt White, Eggshell Felt Beige or Natural Kraft. See Shop by Material →
Artwork Considerations
Identify the Spot UV areas separately
The areas that should receive the gloss coating need to be clearly identified in your artwork file, separate from the rest of the design.
Contrast between coated and uncoated areas
Spot UV reads best where there's a clear boundary between the coated and uncoated surface, so think about which shapes or details benefit most from that contrast.
Fine detail and registration
Very fine lines or small detailed shapes can be harder to coat precisely than larger shapes. We review your artwork and flag anything that may not register cleanly before production.
You'll see a proof first
Every order receives a digital proof before production so you can review the artwork before it moves forward.
